“A raw, deeply revealing reflection on loss, love, grief and healing…”
Daniel Isenberg lost his vivacious, tenacious, and gifted Neapolitan wife after a four-year battle with a very rare, untreatable cancer. In “Not for You” Dan takes us with him on a uniquely honest, intimate, raw journey starting with the months leading up to his loss, and in the months after, grappling with the “knife” buried in his chest after her death. Deeply reflective, Dan studiously avoids giving out advice while allowing readers to reach their own conclusions about how to deal with tragedy and loss.
“Powerful and beautiful, painful and resonant, vivid… thank you for sharing your journey.” – Karen Dillon- Perez, co-author of bestseller, “How to Measure Your Life,” and former chief editor, Harvard Business Review.

This Book Is Not For You is both a passionate love letter and an honest, raw chronicle of the author's wife's 4-year battle with a rare cancer and his deep grief upon her death. Eventually he also begins to experience the early stages of healing. It is a purely personal account, but one where readers will find much to help them navigate their own way through grief and pain. I highly recommend this book.
A deeply intimate and heartfelt account of caring for a beloved spouse through serious illness and premature death. I was left pondering such circumstances that we all must deal with at some point in our lives but are never quite prepared for. This book helped me reflect and contemplate not just about Carla and Dan's journey, but about life's hardest moments and how we face them both collectively and as individuals.
Death, loss, and grief - we're all going to experience it. Dan's book is a love letter to his wonderful wife, a howl of grief--and despite the title, a lesson to all of us who witness people suffering loss. Show Up. You may not know what to say, but bring the casserole or the loaf of bread, bring in the mail, let out the dog. Thank you, Dan, for a heartbreaking, helpful primer on love, illness, death, and carrying on.
This Book Is Not for You" is exactly what grief deserves — unflinching honesty. Dan doesn't offer platitudes or a roadmap. He offers himself: raw, vulnerable, and real. Reading this felt like bearing witness to something sacred. It is powerful and heart-wrenching and loving, all at once. For anyone who has loved someone and lost them — or who will — this book matters. Thank you, Dan, for being willing to share all of it.
Grief is deeply personal, as one treasures the depth of a loved one in life and death. A few times you get to share precious stories, that bring us closer to all life. Danny has written a loving & beautiful tribute to Carla, and shares the focus and out-of-focus thoughts as we all race against time. While I didn't know Danny or Carla very well, I am now cemented in their stories, as I reveal mine. I read it in one sitting, as such a story deserves intense listening. What Danny shares is true to all of us, and I'm thankful that he muscled through and share the experience in such a personal and instructive way.
Dan’s book is striking in its raw honesty. He opens himself with courage, sharing his inner world with disarming clarity. His love for Carla is powerful, and his dialogue with the Carla within me is deeply moving. A meaningful read for anyone touched by trauma or loss and seeking a genuine, compassionate voice.
